Matthew Malfa serves as Deputy County Counsel for the County of Passaic. In conjunction with the County Counsel, he is responsible for advising the Board of Chosen Freeholders on a broad range of issues and consulting with the various County Departments in legal matters, including contracting, litigation and employment issues. He is currently assigned to the Freeholder Committee on Administration, Finance and Law, as well as the Self-Insurance Committee. Matt also oversees the County's tort litigation and has represented the County directly in numerous litigated matters before the Superior Court of New Jersey, the United States District Court and various administrative agencies.

A Paterson native, Matt has worked in the County Counsel's Office since February, 1998, when he was appointed as an Assistant County Counsel. In April, 2000, he assumed the role of Deputy Counsel. Prior to that, Matt was a senior associate with the law firm of Waters, McPherson, McNeill, P.C. in Secaucus, New Jersey, where he handled civil litigation in the trial and appellate courts, with an emphasis on employment defense and commercial matters. He received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and Journalism from Rutgers University, New Brunswick in 1986, and his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1990. He is admitted to practice in the State of New Jersey and the District of Columbia.
